Hi Billcost,
One question did you water shrink the tissue before you doped it? Sorry for asking such an obvious question but..............
I Always find that dope makes it go slack and then tight again when doping, but never completely slack. I use Banana oil.
As far as I know Silkspan is easier to use than tissue as it has better wet strength, but is much heavier. I think I'm right in saying that unless you get the lightest weight silkspan available it is too heavy for a model of this size for rubber power.
I NEVER use a hair dryer to dry tissue, for me it's a sure fire way of getting warps in light structures like the 600 series kits. Personally I would not reccomend it (sorry stvtptn). Allowing the tissue to dry nice and slow held down in a jig or on a board does the trick, no wrinkles, no fuss.
There is actually nothing wrong with the tissue in the kits, It doesn't shrink a lot but it is ok, I have used it on occasion, my main reason for not using it generally is that is is usually boring grey/white and the esaki I prefer is lighter and soaks up less dope thus ends up being lighter all told
My twopeneth worth!
Anyhow Nice model, good luck on the trimming. You may want to straigten the tailplane up a bit. Use the steam from a boiling kettle to do this.......
