Second build

Here is my second build ever, the Hawker Hurricane from the 500 series. It has been a few years since my first build (a dumas P-51D mustang). My grandfather got me interested in this hobby and finally I decided I wanted to pursue it. I am in my Late 20's and finally have the time and patience in my life to give this hobby the attention it deserves. Also new to the forum, I finished this build about the same time I discovered this site so hopefully the P-40warhawk (501 kit) will come out better than the Hawker did. I also picked up the 400 series P-40 but decided to build at least one more 500 series before tackling the larger model.

hand painting the camo pattern with enamel was not very easy...

This is going to be the next one I do. Lookin good! I put this down for about 20 years as I wandered around doing road work. After a while I opened the storage unit and re-built the Mustang I carried forever. And I got hooked again. I can't think of anything more relaxing than cutting wood.

It sure is relaxing, I spent last night just cutting out all the pices/sanding and trimming notches with tv on in the background and a cold one on the table...Can't wait to start putting together the P-40

The mistake i made with the this one was rushing. I am going to take my time on my P-40. I am also switching up my glue from ambroid to elmers white glue as i do this in a small apartment and the odor was a bit much. I found a glue applicator that is great it just puts a dab on there. I am finding myself using A LOT less glue this way.

I am glad I finally got my head out of the video game world and have a constructive hobby that i can hopefully pass on to my kids someday.

I found myself with the same problem of rushing on the construction process. Having worked the building trades most of my life you find old habits hard to break. I started settling down on my 4th build and the quality is very noticeable and my detailing keeps getting better. My glue applicator is a toothpick. I put a small amount of glue in an old jar lid and a toothpick ( I prefer round) as an applicator. When not in use you can cover the lid with some plastic wrap and the white glue stays useable for quite awhile.
