Banana oil

Postby paul » Mon Jan 18, 2016 9:45 am

In a recent issue of Areomodller, an article mentioned the use of Banana oil instead of dope.
It didn't specify make or brand.
Any builders know what this could be?

Thanks

In the infancy of aviation builders used it as dope. I think jennies had it on them though I'm not sure. I have not seen it for sale at any modeling sites and am not sure of it's use in these times of all the plastics.

Its still available for consumer use..although expensive. We used it for years in the Corps for respirator fitment testing and cleaning the plastic windows on canvas equipped vehicles. Remember seeing jeeps with the milky plastic windows? That stuff made them crystal clear. Might want to check military surplus stores and online surplus sites first. Another free source is if you know anyone in the Reserve or Guard...they usually still have jugs of it stored to use. Thats how I got my last 1/2 gallon.
