Could it be i am using a heating gun to accelerate drying? Should i just let in naturally dry?

I would say that "force drying" with a hair dryer is exactly what is causing it. Domestic tissue also is very weak and will do that much more easily than the Japanese tissue. It is always best to mist on a light bit of water and let air dry. Rubbing alcohol is also a good in that it does not shrink the tissue as much but alcohol many times makes the colors run in domestic tissue. Covering takes a bit of practice, experimentation, and re-doing to get results you are finally happy with.
