DC3/C47

Postby Coloradoken » Wed Nov 26, 2014 9:17 pm

Having a go at the Dakota and asking anyone out there who has built it to share an opinion. The box cover shows the model with the main gear up while the drawing shows construction of the gear down. The supplied plastic lower nacelle has the gear up while the models I have seen have the gear down. It can't be both ways. Any suggestions?

All the parts are included for a gear down version If I remember correctly you just need to modify the nacelles.

OK.Thanks. I modified the nacelle buy cutting out the 1/2 wheel and cut a slot for the landing gear strut assembly. Now I have exposed the skeleton construction. Guess I could paint it all black or build a balsa block to cover it. We'll guess I will do what looks best.

Did you happen to notice a piece of cardstock about the color of zinc chromate in your kit, it has an insert that fits nicely in that opening.

Finally finished the kit. Could not decide to do the military or civilian trim. Eventually did the port side as a D-Day C-47 and the starboard side as a Eastern DC3. Not sure if it works. What do you think?

That really never occurred to me. If there's two paint schemes, I have to do two planes.

That is really kewl. Well done!

Doesn't fly. Removed props and put on CDs (shiny hideout) and suspended by fishing line. Its all in what the eye perceives and the mind expects. Its an optical illusion!

Great build! What paint did you use for the Eastern Airlines side?

Did one and sent to Guillows builders photos. Try the archive for about 4 months ago. Fun build. Good luck!
