Laser Cut Messereschmitt 500 series Build

Postby scigs30 » Mon Dec 02, 2013 12:44 am

I received my laser cut 500 series Messerschmitt yesterday and built it today. I used Testors cement and did not sand that is why all the charred edges are showing. I built the kit per the plans with no modifications and all the parts fit great. The quality of balsa is the best I have ever seen and lighter than any of the die crushed balsa of the past. This build was a pleasure and went together in a matter of hours, good job Guillows, cannot wait to build all the 500 series. As shown she weighs 20 grams, not bad and should fly on rubber with no problem. The 500 series have always been my favorite Guillows kits but were not a fun build because of the heavy die crushed balsa, but now I think these will be popular with all builders. I followed the instruction booklet and everything went together as planned, have not decided if I am going to cover or just display. Thank you Guillows for giving me this opportunity to build this wonderful plane.

im so glad they are laser cutting 500 series. They are my favorite because of price, and size. They fit in my budget and my room. Now I won't have to recut as many parts though.I can't wait til they're available.

This took about 6 hours to build. I still have to sand, but I wanted to leave the laser cut parts as is since this was a prototype build. I will start covering this week.

I left this laser cut kit uncovered for awhile to show off the wonderful kit to fellow builders, everyone is impressed with Guillows. I decided to cover the plane but did not want to paint, once again wanted to show the structure. I covered everything with tissue and no paint was used, trying to keep the weight down to see how she flies. I covered wet, only two pieces of tissue used for the entire fuselage, even with the sharp turn on the bottom. I attached the tissue with 50/50 water/white glue, did one side and let it dry over night before doing the second. The reason I wait is because the first side will come loose when I begin doing the second side, so that is why I allow it to dry overnight. The wing was covered dry with once piece of tissue on the bottom and three pieces on top. I glued the tissue to the plastic pieces and clear coated with Testors since I cannot brush dope on plastic. Once everything was covered I shrank the tissue and brushed on two coats of dope and will allow it to dry overnight. Next day off I will apply the decals and put the plane together. Blue? Well I saw one on EBay and I thought it looked cool so that is why I went with blue.

Looks very nice.

I am currently in the middle of building my very first model - the 500 series Stuka, and I'll admit more than a couple of parts ended up broken from notching and even from separating from the sheet. I will definitely be choosing a laser-cut model for my next project.

Sorry if this is not the right place to ask, but would someone from Guillow's or anyone else be able to say when exactly we can expect to see the laser-cut 500 series available for purchase?

I have finished with the prototype build and cannot wait for Guillows to release these laser cut kits. Weight as shown is 22.25 grams, wheels are plug in.

No, she comes with white tissue. I really wanted to keep it so I did not have to paint, still wanted the skeleton to show through. I could not find a white BF109 so this was the next best thing.
