Re: GUILLOWS "ENYOA GAY" FOR SALE

postby regular guy » Sun Jan 15, 2012 12:11 am

dave

i think when they bring back the B 29 it's a good idea to leave off the Enola Gay stuff.
Japan is our ally now. i don't know about paying $50 for plans when whole large scale kits
are $90 at Megahobby, unless you have your own balsa grove on the farm there. what's this AMA?

Guy:

The AMA is the American Modelers Association... The "governing body" of all things R/C and presumably everything else to do with the airplane hobby...

The Enola Gay no matter what is an historical icon, never to be forgotten. Having said that, when I do my blow-up I'll not do the "Atom Bomber" but a "Tokyo Firebomber" in green and black, as I think I've seen enough renderings of the silver plane. Just sayin'..

They can command the price for plans that they do because you can't get the plans "legally" anywhere else. The difficulty in buying just the plans is not the balsa, in my opinion, but the plastics. When I blow up this plan, I'll have to invent the nose, and engine nacelles at the very least, and I'm sure a half dozen other items, just to pull up close to an accurate rendering of the plane. But, I'm bragging, not complaining. My biggest chore will be finding home for the danged thing when it's ready to hang on the ceiling. (162" wingspan...)

Will probably build it in 2013...

The previous P-39 he sold was missing the canopy and he knew it (as reported by David), but he never updated the auction description to reflect that. The current B-29 says it is sealed but from the photos is clearly not sealed. So what you're working with is someone who sells way too many items to properly describe them all and ensure honest auctions with bids that reflect the true value. That last P-39 kit would have sold for a lot less if he had pointed out the missing canopy in the auction description after David inquired about it. Not an honest seller if you ask me.

I really must quit my day job and take up the buying and selling these kits so I can retire early.

In the guy's defence, I've bought more kits from him than any other e-bay seller, and have been well taken care of... You're right tho, I don't know how he stays organized...

The price has been steadily climbing on Guillow's kits over the past 90 days. many selling for over twice what I'd ever pay for them. What I find funny is that the new lazer cut versions of many of the kits are selling on the shelf at my LHS for less than the non-lazer versions are on E-bay... Word must not really be out on this new lazer thingy...
