Thanks Heywooood, it was an 11 + month project that kept me out of the wife's hair. She probably enjoyed it as much as I did. It is the largest of the Guillow's aircraft that I have done.

Well it is just a terrific model and a nice tribute to the men and women who built and flew the
Boeing in conflict.
Seems we also have a similar motivation to pursue this hobby...lol

Well now the DH2 Beaver is presenting me with new challenges...we need challenges, right? I've decided to skin the fuselage with balsa, like yours Heywooood, but skin the wings with tissue to emulate the non metallic material used on the real ones but the control surfaces, ailerons, flaps, elevator & rudder solid balsa and at least the ailerons and flaps will be moveable (pinned & hinged). The trick is duplicating the ribs on all those control surfaces. I have been working on those for days.
Also fabricating the cabin and all interior goodies. I did that on the Cessna 172 model and enjoyed it a lot even though it is not visible with the plane hanging from my celling ... but it is there!

If you are good with an airbrush you can simulate the corrugated metal and fabric covered flaps and control surfaces with shading. I've seen it done so well that you are tempted to run your fingers over the surface to see if it is real.

Nope, not good enough with air brush to do that much parallel detail... so it's the hard way with lots and lots of balsa tiny strips & hours of sanding. I'm nearly done with that part and ready to over skin with tissue. It looked good on a test piece after spraying so here's hoping!

Great looking build. Been working on same model for about a year. Just about finished.

I found the B-17 a very rewarding build with a few new challenges in this hobby that has proven to be one of my most enjoyable winter activities. Every military model I have built I make it a point to research the history and the B-17's gave me " goose bumps" after reading of the dedication and heroism demonstrated by it's crews in WW2. What an outstanding generation of people involved!!!!!!
